Fostering an OPJ Dog

Fostering is providing a homeless dog with a temporary home for certain amount of time or until the OPJ team finds them a forever home.

Please scroll down to the bottom of the page and fill out a foster form. We will then respond to you via email with which of our dogs would best suit your situation and requirement and arrange for a home visit if necessary as well as arrange a meeting with you and the foster dog/s.

Often times, dogs that are rescued need temporary shelter before a permanent home is found for them, especially if the dog is very young or needs special care.

The duration of fostering is usually agreed upon between the foster family and the OPJ team. It can be as little as a week or as much as several months depending on how long the foster is willing to care for the dog or how long it takes to find the dog a permanent home.

Fostering saves lives! It is also a very rewarding experience. By giving a homeless dog a temporary home, you are enabling OPJ to be able to rescue more dogs, because without a foster home, we are unable to take in more dogs. Moreover, when a dog is in a foster home, he/she is gaining the confidence they need to flourish and settle into their forever home once they are adopted.

If for any reason you are no longer able to foster, the OPJ team will work closely with you to ensure that the dog has a smooth transition either into another foster home, or into a permanent home.

Each foster dog is usually provided with the basics they will need in their foster home (i.e leash, collar, bed, toys, bowls, food...etc) so the cost is extremely minimal and will depend on you and how much you wish to pamper your foster dog.

We will often recommend that people try fostering a dog before committing to adopting (especially first-time dog owners , or those considering to add a second dog ). Should a foster decide to adopt their dog, they would usually get priority over any other potential adopters applying for the dog. For this reason, we usually evaluate fosters like we would potential adopters (by asking them to fill in a form and adhere to a home visit).
